1960’s singer Connie Francis recently discovered that she likes gay porn stars – and gay porn stars like her, too!
At a recent Ft. Lauderdale celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of her film Where The Boys Are, Francis was escorted by four burly beefcakes as part of her promotional apperance. The Connie Francis Great American Beach Party was full of a different sort of “family” having a different sort of “fun,” though – Francis’s hairdresser recognized and outed the four escorts as major gay porn stars, including crazy-faced Falcon alum Matthew Rush (pictured at left with Francis).
Ft. Lauderdale mayor Jack Selier quickly distanced himself and the city from the adult film actors. However, the “Fallin’” singer was far more cordial – “I don’t want to hurt their feelings!” Francis was quoted as saying. “Everybody’s got to earn a living.”
Perhaps this dates me, but when I hear Connie Francis, I think immediately of the seminal 1990’s teen witch movie The Craft. Specifically, I think of the Connie Francis-filled jukebox that Grace purchases after Nancy (Fairuza Balk) kills her stepfather using witchcraft. “Who’s Connie Francis?!” Grace exclaims incredulously when one of the teen witches professes not to know who the singer is. “Honey, listen and learn! Connie Francis!“
Do people who weren’t goth teenagers in the 1990’s have different Connie Francis associations? Do others think Matthew Rush looks a bit like a lamphrey on steroids? Tell us in the comments!
