Instinct Magazine Celebrates Gay Pride Month

As Pride hits big cities and small towns all around the world this summer, Instinct is showcasing a host of reasons to be proud of who you are and the community you belong to—and it all starts with this issue’s gorgeous cover guy, Ben Nelson!

Continuing their proud tradition of only featuring out gay men on their covers (it is Pride after all…), Ben is the perfect guy to grace the Pride cover because in lots of way, simply put, he’s you!

A southern boy with big city ambition, Ben talks about facets of life that mostly all gay men can relate to: from forming a sense of self-identity, finding independence and carving out one’s place within larger social groups. Ben even jokes that his coming-out story isn’t particularly exciting because there wasn’t made-for-TV-movie drama, but what better story to tell (especially during Pride month) than one of acceptance, love and support?

One of the things that has brought Instinct great pride this year has been our involvement with the 10th anniversary of the AIDS/LifeCycle. By the time many of you pick up the issue, our Team Instinct riders will likely be hundreds of miles into their trek on the 2011 ALC journey. But before they hopped on their bikes, some of our guys spoke with a few of the more than 2,500 riders and found that pride manifests itself in many ways. The result is a moving, inspiring collection of personal tales of commitment and heroics—our special feature story, “Why We Ride,” should not be missed.

And there’s still much more this June and July! They have a hilarious recounting of what happens when a gay uncle (or guncle) turns babysitter, a little dating astrology via your pooch, and part one of an Instinct writer’s great gay American road trip. All that, plus Drop Dead Diva’s April Bowlby, a moonlight swim with some very sexy models in Miami and much more in the June/July 2011 Pride Issue of Instinct Magazine—now available in print and in iPad and iPhone versions.
