Disco queen Donna Summer has died, a family spokesperson told the Associated Press. She was 63.

Her family released a statement Thursday saying Summer had died and that they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.”

Known as the “Queen of Disco,” Summer was born LaDonna Adrian Gaines in Boston, Mass., in 1948, as one of seven children. She was raised on gospel music and became the soloist in her church choir by age 10. Summer married Brooklyn Dreams vocalist Bruce Sudano in 1980. She is survived by her husband, three daughters (Brooklyn, Mimi and Amanda) and four grandchildren.

Shunned by their own families for being “different” and their career choices in the industry, “The Porn Brat Pack” formed a complex family who lived together, loved together and in some cases, died together.

MAKING OF THE FILM: The film is a passion project for writer/director, Chad Darnell, who first approached legendary porn producer/director Larry Paciotti (aka Chi Chi LaRue) in the fall of 2001. Paciotti immediately passed. Darnell approached him again in 2010 and Paciotti agreed to be interviewed for the first time for a film.

The script is based entirely on interviews with the surviving members of the infamous “Porn Brat Pack:” Paciotti, Sharon Kane, Mickey Skee and Chris Green, and interviews with nearly a hundred other co-workers, friends and performers, including Brian Maley, Jerry Douglas and Robert Prion.

Joey Stefano (Paciotti’s discovery and considered by fans to be one of the biggest porn stars of the ’90s) died of a drug overdose on Nov. 26, 1994.  Geoffrey Gann (aka “Karen Dior”) died of complications from the AIDS virus on Aug. 24, 2004.

The film is produced by Chad Darnell and Kathy Weiss in association with Seedling Productions. Darnell’s recent movie Groom’s Cake is currently playing in the festival circuit. He is also developing the pilots Mortified and The Revivals with Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. Weiss most recently produced the films The Family Tree and Deep Dark Canyon.

Missi Pyle (Kane) most recently starred in the Academy Award-winning Best Picture film The Artist, and is currently filming the Fox pilot, Prodigy Bully. Willam Belli (Dior) recently appeared on Season 4 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Ryan O’Connor (LaRue) was most recently seen as a finalist on Oprah Winfrey’s Your OWN Show and will be appearing in Groom’s Cake.

The producers are finalizing investors and expect to shoot the film in Summer 2012. It has yet to be determined who will play the role of Joey Stefano.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has submitted a court document (amicus brief), known as a friend-of-the-court brief, supporting the Preliminary Injunction issued by United States District Judge John F. The Preliminary Injunction is currently on appeal by MyVidster.com with the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

This filing makes the MPAA the third notable heavyweight to take a position in this case. These Internet companies dispute Flava Works’ and the lower court’s assertion that a website’s servers need not actually store a copy of a work in order to “display” it, as the term applies to copyright infringement, because such a rule directly contradicts the Ninth Circuit’s 2007 ruling in Perfect 10 v. Amazon.com, Inc., in which it was held that strict liability could only be assigned to the host of the unauthorized content and not to one who merely provides a link to that content.
