Ex-Cop With Gay Porn Past Wins Legal Battle

Michael Verdugo now 36 years old and former police officer who appeared in one gay porn film three years before he became a cop was allowed to keep his police certification a state of Florida review panel ruled Thursday.

Hollywood, Florida Police Chief Chad Wagner determined Verdugo had not been honest on his application because he did not mention the fact that he had appeared in a pornographic movie.

The ruling by the Florida review pane doesn’t give Verdugo his old job back, but allows him to retain his certification, meaning that he won’t need to be retrained.

Verdugo, also a former contestant on the HGTV interior design show Design Star, has sued to get his old job back. The case will be heard in November in Broward County, Florida Circuit Court. HGTV dropped Verdugo from the program after his porn past also came to light.

Verdugo, who made $700 for his bondage scene at the age of 22, said it never occurred to him to put the movie on his resume when he applied for a position with the Hollywood Police Department. Verdugo says that not withstanding the payment performing in the video was way for him to explore his own sexuality.
